These resource guides provide information primarily for: people who are receiving Persons with Disabilities (PWD) benefits and will be receiving a lump sum payment, or people who want to bequeath some money or assets to a person receiving such benefits without having their benefits cut off. The guides will also be useful for families of people who need assistance managing large amounts of money. Anyone who wishes to create a trust is strongly advised to consult a lawyer who understands both trusts and the Employment and Assistance Act for Persons with Disabilities.
The “How to Create a Trust” document has good information about the overall process but be aware that the asset information is not up to date.
